Its 5am in
June, already over 90 degrees in the shuttle. With the only light I have, a headlamp,
we mark the appliances route by route. I
maneuver from the front to the back of the trailer over ranges and dishwashers
to get what I can labeled before it’s unloaded….we sometimes call those “the
good old days.” Fast forward 6 years,
everything runs like clockwork in the morning, we have a beautiful new building,
a hand held that tells us what route each appliance is on and have managed to
stay accident free for the life of this account. PROUD is an understatement.
Safety encompasses more than just driving. It includes warehousing, loading, installing
and takes teamwork to be successful.
We’ve been through two facility moves, less than ideal working
conditions and multiple networking issues.
None of these hurdles have impacted our business and our priorities have
never wavered. Management can assign all
the training available, but nothing beats relaxed conversation. I feel we get the most from sharing a bite to
eat, or a quick talk in the warehouse. When drivers truly understand the
responsibility of being a professional and the cost associated with accidents
and injuries, they drive with a heightened awareness. I appreciate my team’s hard work and continued
dedication to safety and always take the time to let them know how much I care
about them. We recently celebrated our
achievement of perfection at the Fresno Grizzlies baseball stadium, where we
rented out the pool and had a great night. Moving on, handing over what has from day one
been MY account is hard but I leave them in good hands and am pleased to be
leaving on such a positive note. As I
transition out of this role, I want to pay special thanks to our admin, Letti Rivas
who has been an instrumental part of our safety culture for all these years and
to my management team for always guiding me in the right direction.
